The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a wind chill advisory for our area beginning tonight with effects lasting into the weekend. Wind chills ranging from -15 to -35 degrees are possible. People are advised to limit outdoor activities as much as possible, to dress in several layers of loose-fitting clothing if you must be outside, and to keep pets indoors. When indoors use caution when using space heaters, a fireplace, or a woodstove to heat your home, and keep a fire extinguisher handy. Consider letting a trickle of water run from your faucets in order to reduce the risk of pipes freezing. We also ask people who are able to check on family, friends, and neighbors, especially the elderly, those who live alone, those with medical conditions, and those who may need extra help. You can find more tips by visiting mass.gov and searching on Extreme Cold Safety. Finally, community members needing assistance during this weather event should contact Public Safety dispatch at 413-664-4945.
