Discover History And Beauty At Natural Bridge State Park In North Adams
With summer in full swing, what comes to mind when you think of state parks? While many picture just a picnic area, I can assure you this park has much more to offer. My perspective changed after visiting it for the first time during a school field trip.

North Adams' Natural Bridge
Natural Bridge State Park, located in North Adams, spans 48 acres and features the continent's sole naturally formed white-marble bridge.
This park, once a commercial white marble quarry in operation from 1810 to 1947, was designated a state park in 1985 to preserve its unique geological features.

Features of Natural Bridge State Park
A brief 0.3-mile hike brings you to the natural bridge, which gives the park its name. Stairs provide an up-close view of the bridge. Watch for any restrictions that could limit your view.
Here's a brief history: Over 13,000 years ago, glacial meltwater carved into 550-million-year-old marble bedrock, creating this natural bridge celebrated as a marvel in both natural and geological contexts. The bridge is over 15 feet thick and extends 30 feet across Hudson Brook, situated within a steep 60-foot gorge. It's genuinely awe-inspiring to behold!

What are the opening hours for Natural Bridge State Park?
Visitors to the park have the opportunity to explore the abandoned marble quarry and view a unique man-made white marble dam. Similar to the natural bridge, this dam is the only one of its kind in North America. It offers an ideal summer outing and is frequently chosen for educational activities in summer programs.
