Construction Work For New Greylock School In North Adams Is Underway

For the past few weeks, I've been seeing this big crane in my neighborhood. Then I remember, oh yeah, Greylock School in North Adams is being rebuilt. Considering I never went to this school growing up, I can only imagine how people feel about the memories they're holding right now, with the old building no longer there.

So today, I decided to ride over to the construction site to take a closer look at the progress on the new Greylock School. This is what's happening so far.

Walls Of Concrete Visible From The Street

The first thing I noticed is that a couple of walls are already standing, along with a foundation. And most importantly, all the construction workers on the job are doing a difficult but rewarding job.

According to iberkshires.com, there were 26 to 32 workers when the project first started, with concrete trucks arriving daily. Right now, there are about 30-35 people working on site, which is not too busy this time of year but could get busier as winter approaches.

Am I Allowed to Visit the New Greylock School Construction Site?

Visiting is allowed, but all visitors must report to the site office as indicated by the sign on the fence. A hard hat is required when entering the construction site. Anyone who wishes to not enter is welcome to visit, as long as they're outside the fence, looking from the sidewalk, like I did when I took these pictures.

How To Get Here

The address is 100 Phelps Ave, North Adams, MA 01247. Access is easy, just off State Road. Two meetings on the project's updates are scheduled at City Hall, Conference Room 202, on July 21 and Aug. 18, 2026.
