
North Adams Housing Authority Residents Now Have Free Wi-Fi Access
In today's generation, having internet access is more important than ever. Whether it's listening to your local radio station, staying up to date with the most local information, or, more importantly, working remotely from home.
According to Wikipedia, internet use has grown by more than 1.3 billion users since the pandemic began in 2020. 93% of U.S. adults use the internet, and 85% now consider high-speed connectivity an essential utility. That's why places like the North Adams Housing Authority, which operates federally subsidized public housing in the city, are emphasizing quality over quantity by providing free high-speed internet access to their tenants, thanks to a state grant.

Free Wi-Fi Now For All North Adams Housing Authority Residents
The Berkshire Eagle reports that an $813,000 grant was awarded through a Massachusetts digital equity program managed by the Massachusetts Broadband Institute. This initiative improved the internet infrastructure, benefiting over 300 housing units across four properties managed by the housing authority.
These four properties include the main Ashland Park Apartments at 150 Ashland Street, Spring Park Apartments at 45 Spring Street, Riverview Apartments at 90 Sperry Avenue, and Greylock Valley Apartments at 48 Angeli Street, all in North Adams.
"For the residents who previously paid for their own Wi-Fi subscription, this will free up some of their expense budget to cover many of the costs of living. which have dramatically increased recently," - Jen Hohn, executive director of the housing authority.


When Can Residents Start Using the Free Wi-Fi?
Residents can immediately begin using the free Wi-Fi, as Holn explained, this will help reduce some of their living costs by freeing up part of their expense budget, which has risen sharply recently. Tenants in these units have incomes below 30% of the area median, which is $27,650 for a single-person household, and allocate just 30% of their monthly earnings to rent.
