Hurricanes in nature often start out slowly and increase in intensity. That's kind of how the Lady Hurricanes of Hoosac Valley state semifinal vs Millbury went Tuesday night.

The Western Mass champions will get to defend their Div. 3 state title Saturday after a come from behind 42-38 win over the Central Mass champions. Hoosac was down 18-10 after the 1st quarter and 25-19 at the half. But the Lady 'Canes took control after 3, 32-31 and denied Millbury's attempts for a tying basket in the final seconds, tacking on a free throw to win it 42-38.

The title tilt will be a rematch of last year's game, as Hoosac Valley will play Northern Mass champion St.Mary's of Lynn which defeated Rockland at TD Garden Wednesday afternoon. The game is scheduled for the DCU Center in Worcester at a time to be announced. We'll have it for you on WNAW & wnaw.com.

The outcome wasn't as good for the Drury Blue Devils. Their season was ended by Central Mass champion Hopedale 74-65 in the Boys Div. 4 state semifinal. Scott McGuire scored 33 to end his high school career as the 2nd highest boys scorer in Berkshire County basketball.
