For the fifth time in six years, the Hoosac Valley Lady Hurricanes traveled to the State Div. 3 Girls Basketball championship game. Unlike the past four, today's bus ride home will be a joyous one as they defeated St. Mary's of Lynn 66-49 to bring the title home to the Berkshires.

Hoosac Valley scored the game's first two points and an exciting 1st Quarter ended at 20-all. The Lady 'Canes Riley Robinson had to leave the game with just under 5 minutes left in the 1st after taking a shot to the head on a drive to the hoop. She was cleared to return in the 2nd Quarter and that seemed to trigger a Hoosac Valley run, ending with a 39-28 halftime lead.

Hoosac would balloon that lead to as much as 20 late in the 3rd before the quarter ended at 57-39.

The Northern Mass champions tried to close the gap in the 4th, but the Western Mass titleholders would have none of it and finished off the win 66-49 to claim the school's first Div. 3 State basketball title.  Lexi Mercier poured in a game-high 21 for the Lady Canes.

As they did after winning the Western Mass, the team will enjoy an official escort as they bring their trophy back from Worcester later today. The Cheshire Police Dept. Facebook  page reported "We will be escorting the Lady Canes home tonight from Worcester. We will pick the bus up in Lee at approximately 5:00pm (time will be updated). We will escort the team through Lee,Lenox,Pittsfield and Lanesboro.via route 8 then into Cheshire and into Adams via Route 8 ,Park st,Hoosac St into Summer and onto 116 to the High school. Please look for time updates and be prepared for the sirens and air horn of the Emergency vehicles."
