The two big trees have been installed at either end of Main Street and crews will be decorating them along with the downtown streets in time for North Adams' annual Tree Lighting ceremony. It's scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 6 P.M., with a rain date of Friday, Dec. 6, at the same time.

The city's Office of Tourism invites everyone to gather around the tree at Monument Square on Main St. (between the First Congregational and First Baptist Churches) and count down the seconds until the switch is thrown, the trees sparkle, and thousands of twinkling lights adorn Main Street. The First Baptist Church will be offering a limited supply of free hot cocoa to keep us warm.

The North Adams Fire Department’s fire engine and the Drury High School Band will escort Santa Claus down Main Street, stopping alongside the tree to deliver goody bags to the first 500 children that come up to greet him.

Once again this year, the Downtown Bike Around will join in, riding along Main St. with bikes decorated in lights. Anyone is welcome to join them starting at 5:15 P.M. from the Peebles/V&V parking lot. You're encouraged to decorate your bikes (and yourself) with lights, glow sticks, and festive attire.

This would also be a good time to enjoy some downtown holiday shopping, dining, and caroling by the Drury High School Band.
