Hoosac Valley Girls Play For a Championship Saturday

The Hoosac Valley Lady Hurricanes defeated Wahconah 56-32 Wednesday night in a W.Mass Girls Div. 3 semifinal to advance to Saturday's championship game.

The night belonged to the 2nd seeded Lady 'Canes as they jumped out to a 16-6 lead after the 1st Quarter, then turned on the jets for a commanding 37-8 halftime lead from which the #3 Warriors could not recover. Alie Mendel rang up 11 straight points on her own during the run.

To capture the trophy, the locals will need to beat 4th seeded Greenfield, which knocked off top-seeded South Hadley 55-53 in the night's other semifinal.

Tip-time for the title tilt is scheduled for 2:15 Saturday at the Curry Hicks Cage at UMass. If you can't be there in person, be sure to listen to the game on AM1230 WNAW and streaming live on wnaw.com
