It is quite literally the next marquee event in North Adams: The City's annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, this Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 6 P.M.

Everyone's welcome to gather around the big tree at Monument Square outside the First Baptist Church at the top of Main Street to hear a few brief words of thanks from some familiar faces before the countdown begins and the switch is thrown to light up the trees at either end of Main St., along with thousands of twinkling lights adorning downtown.

The Drury High School Band will then lead Santa along Main St. with festive holiday tunes. When the Jolly Ol' Elf himself arrives at the tree he'll have goody bags for all the kids. This year, Downtown Bike Around will add to the fun by joining the mini-parade escorting Santa. Anyone can participate by meeting in the Steeple City Plaza parking lot at about 5:15. Make sure your bike has a light on it, and festive decorations and holiday lights are encouraged.

After the ceremonies, why not stick around for a bite to eat downtown? It'll be a great way to end the day and warm up from what is expected to be a very chilly early evening. Be sure to bundle up and enjoy the festivities!
