It's been said that "every dog has its day." In North Adams this year, that day is this Saturday and they'll get a parade to celebrate it in style.

It's the City's annual Fall Foliage Festival Dog Parade, a free event which calls on all canines to turn out dressed in their best finery in keeping with a theme, which this year is "The Year of the Dog." Just how that will play out is anyone's guess. They might just "come as they are"! It's always great fun for the pets, their "people" and parade-watchers. The event's Facebook page notes that awards will be given out for Funniest, Best Group (of dogs), Best Duo (dog + owner), and Best Individual. Prizes and goody bags are provided by Bark N' Cat, which is one of the event's sponsors along with Greylock Federal Credit Union.

Registration is at 10 A.M. at the Veteran's Memorial Park on the corner of Eagle St. and Rt. 2. At 10:30 they'll start walking down Eagle St. to Main, then Main to Holden, down Holden to Center St., down Center Street past the murals and into the North Adams Farmers Market for a quick loop through the market so everyone can show off their costumes, back onto Marshall past River Street, winding up at the North Adams Dog Park for the awards.  Winners are invited to march in Sunday's Fall Foliage Festival Parade.

Again, the event is free, but donations to local animal rescues are gladly accepted.
