Reward Offered For Info On North Adams Fire
The North Adams Fire Department is investigating a fire that they believe is suspicious. The fire took place on Sunday evening at the Hunter Foundry. The NAFD is asking for the public's help.
According to a media statement, shortly after 5:15 pm Sunday evening, the North Adams Fire Department was alerted to the fire. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found all the doors to the building were locked and an interior storage room was on fire.
Significant damage was reported on the first and second floors according to the Department of Fire Services Spokesperson Jake Wark. Firefighters forced their way into the building through a window and were able to get the fire under control.
North Adams Fire was assisted by the Williamstown Fire Department and the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Company in taking care of the emergency in under an hour. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Fire crews were on the scene for several hours putting out hotspots and getting rid of debris. The foundry, closed since 1962 and mainly now used for storage, is located at the end of Hunter Foundry Road and is not easily visible from the main road.
North Adams Fire Chief Brent Lefebvre said in a media statement on Tuesday:
We’re asking anyone in the area of Hunter Foundry Road in the late afternoon or early evening on Sunday to share their observations with investigators.
You can even report information anonymously if you choose. The fire is being investigated by the North Adams Fire Department and the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit.
