North Adams Man Sentenced 4 To 6 Years In Prison For 2022 Shooting At The Pittsfield VFW

On the day he was scheduled to face trial, a North Adams Man reached a plea agreement for the 2022 incident at the Veterans of Foreign Wars bar.

Eric C. Cable, 39, from North Adams, received a sentence of four to six years in state prison after admitting guilt to charges related to a shooting on October 9, 2022, which thankfully did not result in any injuries.Google/Streetview

How The Incident Unfolded

According to The Berkshire Eagle, Assistant District Attorney Amy Winston stated that on the early morning of October 9, 2022, Cable engaged in a heated argument with James Settlers, Drake Settlers, and Joseph Catrone. During the confrontation, Cable drew a firearm and struck James Settlers in the head with it.

As the Settlers and Catrone were about to leave in a car from the bar, Cable shot five rounds at it, according to Winston. The vehicle sustained two bullet holes, but nobody was injured. Cable was charged with assault using a dangerous weapon, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, three counts of assault and battery with a firearm, and carrying a firearm without a license.

He also faced a charge of being an armed career criminal because of his previous convictions, which mandated at least 10 years in prison. However, as part of his plea agreement, that charge was reduced to a minimum of three years.

Cable's Criminal History

Cable has a long criminal record dating back to 2004. In 2011, he received a sentence of 5 to 7 years in state prison after being found guilty of assault with intent to murder. Additionally, he was convicted this past Friday in Northern Berkshire District Court of assault and battery and disorderly conduct related to a separate incident in 2024.
