Going home from work on Monday, I noticed this big crane in the distance driving down State Road in North Adams.

Then I remembered, oh yes, the Greylock School project. So today, I decided to stop by to see what the updates are. Here is what I saw today.

Steele Structure Coming Into Place For New North Adams School

As of today, what they describe as "the skeleton" is starting to take shape for the new school building. Yesterday, the large crane lifted several beams at a time for the east side of the 73,000-square-foot building.

Iberkshires.com reports that the foundations, the final concrete slabs, and utilities are all in place. This section of the first story at the northeast corner was completed Monday afternoon, next to where the gym will be.

What To Expect Next For The New Greylock School Project?

The project is progressing well with minimal issues. Last week, the committee was informed that some schedule items have been adjusted, but overall, everything is proceeding smoothly.

According to Timothy Alix of Colliers at last week's meeting, "Once the steel starts going up, it'll look like things are really moving. It takes shape pretty quickly, and then it'll appear to slow down because they've got to fill in all that steel."

"So you'll see a lot of activity over the next month and a half, as the steel is going up, and the neighbors will be able to see the building taking shape. So it'll be exciting next month and a half as the steel is going in." - Timothy Alix of Colliers
