A  man is being held without bail for allegedly barging into a North Adams home, assaulting the woman inside, and threatening her and her family over $30 he said was owed to him.

The Berkshire Eagle  reports Jason M. Simpson, 23, was arraigned on several charges Friday in connection with the Oct. 10 incident.

He allegedly showed up at the woman's house and barged in when she opened the door, according to North Adams Police, causing the woman to fall backward and strike her head on a refrigerator.

He ignored repeated requests to leave, she told police, and he began demanding $30 he said was owed to him. He allegedly stole $60 from the woman's wallet.

Simpson is also accused of brandishing a knife at the woman and threatening to kill her and her family while repeatedly claiming that he is a member of the Bloods street gang.

The woman said she fled to a neighbor's house to get away from Simpson, and returned to her home a short time later to call police.

Police were given a description of Simpson's clothing and some places where he might be found.

He pleaded not guilty in Central Berkshire District Court to charges of home invasion, assault and battery to collect a loan, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and armed assault in a dwelling.

He was ordered held without bail pending a hearing. The date of the hearing was not immediately available.
