
Pittsfield Man Has Been Charged In North Adams In Connection To Accident On West Main Street
Yesterday (Tuesday, July 14, 2026), late afternoon, while scrolling through social media, I saw a ton of posts urging people to avoid West Main Street because of a serious accident. What I saw in a video was one vehicle turned on its side with a utility pole sheared off. Plus another vehicle in the distance that was involved.
These are the events that unfolded.

Accident Briefly Shuts Down West Main Street in North Adams
Nick Mantello, who does an outstanding job reporting on his North Adams 911 Facebook page, mentioned that a westbound vehicle left its lane and struck the driver's side of an eastbound vehicle, causing it to roll onto its side and strike a utility pole. This, of course, caused a handful of power outages (surprisingly not for me since I live in the area). While the exact number was unknown, traffic was diverted at Brown Street and Roberts Drive as National Grid worked to restore power.

Pittsfield Man Charged In North Adams In Connection To Accident
The day after the accident, North Adams Police Chief Mark Bailey stated that all those involved suffered minor injuries, although one individual was taken to the hospital by Northern Berkshire EMS. Another person was arrested in connection with the accident.
The Berkshire Eagle states that 39-year-old Uriel Herrera Gomez from Pittsfield was taken into custody for allegedly driving while intoxicated, negligent driving, having alcohol in his vehicle, and crossing lane markings. This incident still remains under investigation.
