Former Mass. Governors Patrick and Weld Make 2020 White House Bid
Former Mass. Governor Deval Patrick has entered the race for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.
Patrick, who owns a home In Richmond MA here in the Berkshires, filed paperwork to be eligible for New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation primary election on February 11, a week after the Iowa caucuses. As of Thursday afternoon he was one of 19 Democrats listed on the ballot.
Patrick was a two-term Massachusetts governor from 2007-15.
One of Patrick's predecessors, William Weld, who held the Governor's office from 1991-97 announced earlier this year that he would mount a challenge to President Donald Trump on the GOP primary ballot. He is one of a dozen candidates, including the incumbent, listed so far in NH.
