The Berkshire Eagle is joining a group of newspapers that are looking to defend free press in the country.

An editorial in today’s edition of the Eagle states that since Donald Trump announced his candidacy for president in 2015, he has launched repeated attacks against the media.

The piece goes on to say that verbal assaults escalated after Trump took office, with the president calling the media “the enemy of the American people.”

The Eagle and about 300 other newspapers across the country are pushing back with editorials promoting freedom of the press.

The move is part of a coordinated effort by The Boston Globe editorial board to denounce the presidents attacks against the media.
