Dozens of firefighters from across Massachusetts and Southern Vermont are continuing to battle a stubborn forest fire in the Clarksburg State Forest today after the fire tripled in size over the weekend.

The fire, first reported late Friday afternoon near Henderson Road, increased to 200 acres by mid-afternoon Saturday. Pedercini says that gusty winds, dry leaf cover, and downed trees and branches untouched by fire on the mountain fueled the flames overnight Saturday and all day Sunday.

As of 8 a.m. this morning, the North Adams Police Department are advising folks that Massachusetts Ave. in North Adams will be closed to through traffic until further notice and we are asking to adjust your travel routes accordingly.

The Roadway will be closed at Ashton Ave. for Eastbound traffic and Protection Ave. for Westbound traffic so NAFD Incident Command can be set up in the Wood St. area.

The North Adams Fire Department, along with multiple agencies from Massachusetts and Vermont are working to contain the large brush fire that originated in Williamstown. Mass State Police Helicopter has been activated for water drops on the brush fire in Williamstown.

The Mass State Police Dive Team is at the ready at the reservoir in North Adams for safety as the chopper refills the bucket. State, MEMA and Local Departments are here for the long haul. Air National Guard Choppers may be called in also. A water pick-up station (The Pumpkin) was also set up at the North Adams Airport, Air National Guard helicopters may be called as well.

So far over 270 acres have burned.

If conditions were to change, the people in that affected area would be properly notified by the authorities and through a Reverse E911 call.
