It's unclear why a parked car on Eagle Street erupted in flames Sunday afternoon.

The Berkshire Eagle  reports the fire that engulfed the dashboard of a 2008 BMW is not believed to be suspicious, but its exact cause likely will remain undetermined, according to North Adams Fire Chief Stephen Meranti.

Bystanders, who called the fire in at about 4:11 p.m. on Sunday, reported that the car's alarm had been sounding on and off. Meranti noted that the car's windshield wipers were also halfway up when firefighters responded to the scene.

Firefighters responded to the scene within minutes and quickly extinguished the fire, which was contained to the dashboard..

The car's owner was not inside when the fire started, and no one was injured in the incident.
