A single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning left a Pownal man and a passenger with severe injuries.

The Bennington Banner reports at about 12:14 a.m. Tuesday Vermont State Police Shaftsbury Barracks responded to a single-vehicle crash of a 2009 Dodge Avenger on Ladd Brook Road operated by 24-year-old Peter Nolan, of Pownal.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle left the roadway and collided with trees down an embankment.

Nolan had two passengers in the vehicle. Neither Nolanor the passengers were wearing seatbelts.

Nolan and one of the passengers sustained severe injuries, and were airlifted to Albany Medical Center,

The other passenger was transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Nolan was listed in critical condition as of late Tuesday afternoon. Speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in the crash. The vehicle was totaled.
