The Red Sox are back at home Fenway tonight after a trip to the left coast.  The Sox welcome home cooking and sleeping in their own beds after the ending the trip out west with two straight losses against the Angels.  In the 7 games against the Athletics and Angels the Sox went 500, beating the A’s twice and the Angels once.

The Red Sox are still in first place in the AL East 2.5 games up on the Rays, 8 games up on the Blue Jays and 9.0 games up on the Yankees.  The Orioles really aren’t even worth the mention at 20.5 games out of first place and in the flooded basement of the division.

The Red Sox welcome the Phillies to town tonight for the start of a 3-game series.  The last games they will play before their mid-season 3-day break for the All Star game.  Tonight, the Sox send Garrett Richards to the mound against Vince Velasquez for the Phillies.  Richards has been a headcase in recent weeks since MLB cracked down on substance abuse by league pitchers.  That’s substances pitchers use illegally on the baseball against league rules and not the substances some fans will be using recreationally this weekend.

Richards comes into the game with a 4-5 record.  His unpredictable behavior could be a source of entertainment on the mound.  The outspoken and often confusing statements by the Richards have some wondering if his head will continue to get in the way of his pitching. Richards signed a 1-year 10-million-dollar deal to segue from the Padres to the Sox earlier this year.

The Sox can be heard tonight and all season in the North Adams area on New Country 94.7 WNAW…in Pittsfield on WBEC AM 1420…and in Great Barrington on 94.1 WSBS.  Pre-game starts at 6:10 with the 1st pitch from Richards at 7:10.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
