The Berkshire Eagle  reports a North Adams woman suffered life-threatening injuries early Thursday when she was allegedly assaulted by her husband.

Michael A. Cook Sr., of Chase Avenue, is accused of beating his wife "by means of a dangerous weapon, a blunt object," according to court documents. He is being held without bail in connection with the incident.

Cook, 42, pleaded not guilty in Northern Berkshire District Court on Thursday to felony charges of assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery on a family/household member.

He also is expected to be charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in severe injury, according to Berkshire County District Attorney Andrea Harrington.

The victim was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Her condition was not available. Judge Jennifer Tyne ordered Cook held pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Wednesday in Northern Berkshire County District Court.No further information was available about the incident.
