After several delays, the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott opened for business last week.

The 94-room facility at 430 Main St. had been scheduled to open in June, but was delayed by several construction setbacks and Occupational Safety and Health Administration violations.

The new building has a total floor area of about 53,000 square feet and is 35 feet high. Work on the three-story hotel started in September 2017 with the demolition of the office building that used to stand there.

It is the second new hotel to open in Williamstown this year. The new $32 million Williams Inn — it is owned by Williams College — opened in August, after the former inn closed in July. The Williams Inn now has 64 rooms, while the old inn had 125.
