It’s Been A Long Search, But Pownal Has A Town Administrator
Pownal's long quest to create and fill a position of town administrator will end when Michael Walker begins work on July 16.
The Berkshire Eagle reports Walker, a public safety consultant, adjunct professor, firefighter and EMS class instructor, now lives in Wappingers Falls, New York, but plans to move soon to Pownal with his partner, Faith Marr.
The board voted unanimously to hire Walker at a special meeting and made the official announcement on Thursday.
Walker, 59, was hired at an annual salary of $65,000, without health insurance or other town employee benefits provided, over a three-year contract. He will work full time under the direction of the five-member board.
Walker holds a master's degree in public administration from DeVry University and a bachelor's degree in fire science management from Southern Illinois University.
He also has received a number of national certifications in fire services, emergency response and emergency medical services areas.
