An Ice Storm Warning is in effect for the Berkshires from 5 P.M. Sunday to 7 A.M. Tuesday.

The message from the National Weather Service in Albany says that "significant icing is expected due to freezing rain. Total snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of around a half to three quarters of an inch" are possible.

In a post to its Facebook page the North Adams Fire Dept. advises that "high winds resulting in downed trees and wires and power outages are expected. Prior to the storm plan by charging your phones and have non-perishable food and water. If you lose power use generators safely outdoors and away from windows, do not use gas stoves to heat your home, treat all downed wires to be live. To report an outage please call National Grid at: 800-465-1212."

Icy conditions may impact walking as well as driving. Please be sure to take the precarious weather conditions into account if you plan any kind of travel in the area during the warning period.

Southern VT is under a Winter Storm Warning from 5 P.M.Sunday to 1 P.M. Tuesday, with forecasters calling for the added possibility of snow accumulation in that region.
