In a Columbus Day tradition that began in 1967, hikers will hit the trails on Monday bound for the summit of Mount Greylock – the state’s highest peak at 3,491 feet.

Greylock Ramble, will formally begin at 8 am, though hikers may set out as early as they like, according to a news release from ProAdams, the event organizer.

Hikers are encouraged to use the Cheshire Harbor Trail, which is the gentlest path to the summit.

ProAdams will have a table at Bascom Lodge, where all hikers may receive a certificate of participation. Last year, more than 1,000 hikers made the climb.
