A truck dealership was damaged in a fire Thursday that temporarily shut down a busy state road.

The Berkshire Eagle   reports nearly 30 firefighters responded to a blaze that broke out at Village Truck Sales on Cheshire Road, according to Lanesborough Fire Department spokesman P.J. Pannesco.

The fire was reported around 5:40 p.m. at 800 Cheshire Road. When firefighters arrived on scene, they discovered heavy flames and black smoke coming from the building, according to  Pannesco.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 20 minutes.

Two Lanesborough Fire Department engines and a tanker responded. The Cheshire Fire Department also sent an engine with four firefighters.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A portion of Route 8 was shut down.
