A 33-year-old North Adams man was arrested by FBI agents yesterday near Springfield for his participation in the riot on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th according to an article in The Berkshire Eagle. Brian McCreary is facing charges of two counts of entering a restricted building or grounds, and three counts of violent entry and disorderly conduct. A number of those arrested have had further charges added.

According to the article, McCreary was identified by co-workers from an image of McCreary with the so-called "QAnon shaman" Jacob Chansley…the nut case (my description) wearing horns, face paint and carrying a spear. Co-workers also said McCreary spoke of ‘raiding” the U.S. Capital.

Apparently, McCreary tried to make himself out as a peacekeeper during the riot, in an interview with the FBI conducted Jan. 26 he confirmed that he was the person in the photo and said he’d gone to Washington, D.C., to attend the Trump rally.

According to a follow up article in The Berkshire Eagle, McCreary told the Eagle in an email exchange that for the most part was a bystander, being in the wrong place at the wrong time and he felt a calling to document what the rioters were doing inside the Capital. He went on to tell the Eagle that he shared what he recorded with authorities within hours uploading his videos to the FBI…effectively turning himself in as being present during the raid on the Capital. Also according to the Eagle McCreary admitted to the FBI that he believed that Joe Biden won the presidency by fraud.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that The FBI provided this narrative of McCreary’s actions Jan. 6, based on his interview with authorities:
“Once inside the building, McCreary stated that he turned right twice when the group was confronted by a police officer. McCreary remained in the building for a while longer, following the crowd as they moved about the building. At some point thereafter, as McCreary was exiting the building, he was stopped by a police officer who asked if McCreary was a member of the press and ordered him to present identification. McCreary provided his driver’s license, stated he was not a member of the press and was ordered to leave the building.

McCreary left the building and then admitted to re-entering the U.S. Capitol through a different door that was kicked in just moments before he re-entered. McCreary stated that when he was inside the U.S, Capitol building for the second time he was present when a woman was shot by a police officer after attempting to breach a door leading to the Senate floor.”

McCreary is the second rioter from the Berkshires to be arrested by the FBI. David Lester Ross, 33, of Pittsfield was arrested in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6 and charged the next day with curfew violation and unlawful entry.
