Elton John Was Hit in the Face With Some Beads
Based on the fact that he's taking a few years to wrap it up, Elton John doesn't seem to be in any rush to finish his farewell tour — but incidents like the one that threatened to derail his Feb. 14 Caesars Palace show will probably end up on his "reasons to retire" checklist.
TMZ reports that John — still in the midst of his "Million Dollar Piano" residency at the Las Vegas venue — was leading the band through the night's rendition of "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" when a bead necklace came sailing over his piano and pelted him in the mouth. Visibly annoyed, John took a few moments to examine himself for damage — all while his band, clearly composed of consummate professionals, kept the show going.
According to TMZ, the bead incident occurred shortly after John had invited fans in the front row to come up and join him onstage. The concertgoer who tossed the necklace was reportedly among those who'd been called up — and as the report notes, it seems safe to assume that he or she will not be asked to return.
As John announced last year, he's looking to conclude his lengthy run of Million Dollar Piano shows in late May, but according to the U.K.'s Daily Mail, a couple of dates may end up being knocked off the itinerary; the paper's sources say John intends to cancel a pair of Vegas shows so he can clear his calendar for the upcoming royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
