Dalton's police chief is a finalist to lead the Adams Police Department on an interim basis. His candidacy comes amid an ongoing review into his management of Dalton's force.

Jeffrey E. Coe was one of five candidates interviewed last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday by the town's top board to replace Richard Tarsa Jr., who plans to retire at the end of the month. Four other candidates were also interviewed — Shawn Boyne, Troy Bacon, Erik Josephson and John Mesham.

Coe's interview came two days before he was to appear for a second time before an outside hearing officer Dalton hired to examine allegations that Coe treated a female officer differently and engaged in what an investigator termed conduct unbecoming an officer.
