With the housing market still exploding, we’ve all seen some of the most beautiful and expensive homes highlighted on our social media feeds.  As someone that often goes against the grain, I got to thinking what is the least expensive house listed in the Berkshires.

The least expensive listing I noticed is this fixer-upper from a search of the Berkshires on Zillow.  Listed for just under 60k, this Pittsfield home needs some updating.  In the listing it is described as an “investment opportunity” with two units.  The first floor has one bedroom with the 2nd floor more expansive with two bedrooms and 1.5 baths.

The house was built in 1980.

The property is listed as having 3 bedrooms and 3 baths.

The 2nd Street property is 2,152 sq ft. and has been on the market for close to 4 months.

You can beat the taxes on this property.  Last listed in 2021 at $1,149.

This property is listed as a Foreclosure.

This property is being sold as-is and there are no seller disclosures.

According to a recent article in the Boston Globe, June's median price of a single-family home in the state was $555,000.  Considerably more than the fixer-upper we highlighted in this piece.  That $555,000 figure is over 25% higher than June of 2020 and an all-time high according to the article.  Last year at this time the median home in Mass was $115,000 cheaper according to the Globe.

In comparison to this 2nd Street property we've highlighted, the most expensive listing in our Berkshire search area is a listing for just over 1.5 million. It is listed as having 1 more bedroom than our featured property and 2 additional bathrooms.

Perhaps neither of these properties are a perfect fit for what you are looking for, but from the experiences I've heard about from those in the market for a new home, the market is still so competitive with such a lack of inventory that if you're not willing to overpay for a property, you will have to continue to have nightmares in the search of your dream home.
