Officials urged residents to continue utilizing Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for care, and talked about the hospital's efforts to mitigate the coronavirus, including through a planned hotline system, at a Select Board meeting on Monday.

Tom Dee, president and CEO of Southwestern Vermont Health Care, updated the Bennington Select Board on the hospital's response to COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, at the board's regularly scheduled meeting on Monday.

The Vermont Department of Health announced the state's first case of COVID-19 late Saturday night. It involves an adult patient being treated in an isolation unit at SVMC in Bennington.

Dee confirmed Monday that the patient is male.
