The Berkshire Eagle reports three people were hospitalized for treatment Tuesday morning after a two-car collision on State Road.

A 2005 Chevrolet van driven by Charles Poulton appears to have crossed into the westbound lane of State Road near Airport Road and struck a 2015 Buick Sedan operated by George Haddad nearly head-on, according to the preliminary investigation conducted by North Adams Police.

Haddad's passenger, Adelard Lisee, of Adams, was trapped in the vehicle and needed to be extricated by the North Adams Fire Department and Northern Berkshire EMS, according to North Adams Police Lt. Jason Wood.

Lisee and Haddad's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. They were transported to BMC in Pittsfield for treatment.

Poulton, of Adams, was transported to Berkshire Medical Center's North Adams Campus. His injuries were also not life-threatening.

The accident remains under investigation, but police believe Poulton entered the westbound lane to navigate around a garbage truck that was turning into a nearby driveway. He could face charges.

State Road was closed to traffic between Ashton and Protection avenues for about one hour. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed away from the scene.
