This Saturday, September 22 North Adams will once again host the Voices For Recovery Walk, Rally, and Vigil. This annual community event is held to help raise awareness for recovery from substance abuse. It starts at Colgrove Park on North Church St. at 1 P.M.

In a pre-recorded interview for this week's "Community Insight" show, Northern Berkshire Community Coalition Director of Prevention and Wellness Wendy Penner said that this year's event has adopted the theme of "Celebrate Recovery" and the order of the program has been changed to reflect that. It will start off at the park with a Vigil of Recovery & Remembrance, followed by a walk to City Hall, returning to Colgrove Park for a rally and a few speakers before winding down at about 3:30. It's a family-friendly event, with activities, live music, and plenty of information on hand.

Joining Penner on "Community Insight" is John Drummond, who shares some candid remarks about his personal struggles with addiction and recovery.  He also talked about looking forward to serving as a peer counselor in the new Beacon Recovery Community Center that will be opening soon at The Green, 85 Main St. in North Adams.

You can hear all about plans for the Center and more details on this weekend's Voices For Recovery event on "Community Insight" this Thursday morning at 8:30 on WNAW AM 1230 and streaming live online at wnaw.com .
