Four years after Middlesex Community College named a campus library after Evan Dobelle, the college’s second president and former mayor of Pittsfield, at least one trustee reportedly wants his name wiped from the building.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that according to an article in the Lowell Sun – during a meeting of the Middlesex Community College’s board of trustees last week, trustee Annie O’Connor said it’s an “embarrassment” to the school community to honor what she referred to as – this kind of person.

Dobelle was president at the college from 1987 to 1990.

The library in the Bradford Morse Federal Building was named for him in 2014.

Later that year, the Massachusetts Inspector General found that Dobelle had spent Westfield State University education funds lavishly on himself while president at the university, from 2007 to 2013.
