Pedestrian Airlifted To Baystate After Being Struck By Car

The Berkshire Eagle reports a pedestrian seriously injured Sunday morning after being struck by a car near Hillside Cemetery in North Adams.

The unidentified man had exited a parked car in the area of 291 West Main St. when he was hit by another vehicle, around 11:30 a.m.

Galeb Gerhartt, 31, from Pownal, Vt., was driving east on West Main, when he apparently hit the pedestrian with his vehicle.

The victim was airlifted by medical helicopter to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with "very serious" injuries, police said late Sunday afternoon.

Local police and the Massachusetts State Police accident reconstruction team are investigating the traffic mishap.

Eyewitnesses to the accident are asked to call the North Adams Police.
