Organizers say that despite today's winter storm, Northern Berkshire's 26th annual community celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will go on as planned Monday. The annual MLK Jr. Day of Service will take place at MCLA's Venable Gym.

In a post on the event's Facebook page, they say if there is a need for postponement, MCLA will make the call early early on Monday and it will be posted there by 8 A.M.

Known as "A day on, not a day off" it begins at 8:30 A.M. with light refreshments provided while you register for a morning service project of your choice from over 15 projects both on campus and throughout the community. Suitable for all ages and abilities, they might include things like painting, cleaning, organizing, building, winterizing, simple sewing, or assembling & decorating kits.

At 12:30 everyone gathers again at Venable Gym for a free lunch and celebration, which will include inspiring words and music. A highlight of the event is the presentation of the annual Peacemaker Award. This year the honoree will be Kenna Waterman for all her work in supporting people in recovery.

Everyone is welcome and you don't have to sign up, just show up. If you'd like more info you may get in touch with Kathy Keeser at Kathykeeser@gmail.com or Liz Boland at the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition at 663-7588.
