After months of committee discussion, the North Adams City Council is finally set to take up a proposal to rewrite the governing ordinances of the Public Arts Commission.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that the public debate has simmered over the extent of the mayor’s authority in matters of public art, and how much autonomy the Public Arts Commission should have when signing contracts for public art.

The issue arose earlier this year when Mayor Thomas Bernard introduced a proposal to rewrite the ordinances that established the Public Arts Commission.
