The North Adams Planning Board gave Cumberland Farms the green light to move ahead with plans for a new store on Ashland Street on Monday.

The Berksire Eagle reports the company plans to finalize the purchase of the city's former Department of Public Works headquarters on 227 Ashland St., razing the property and replacing it with a new store and fueling station.

The new Cumberland Farms location is expected to replace the current 70 Ashland St. location, which sits less than a mile to the north.

As part of the purchase and sale agreement, the city agreed to pay half of the costs.

It's a far different story as far as progress on the yet to be built Cumberland Farms store in Adams. The company says it may need months to produce plans for the build and is asking for more time.
