A city man died following a motor vehicle crash Friday evening.

The Berkshire Eagle reports Steven Fortier, 49, was riding a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Church Street shortly after 10 p.m. when he collided with a car headed northbound.

Fortier was transported to the North Adams Campus of Berkshire Medical Center, where he died before he could be transported via emergency helicopter.

The accident, which occurred just south of the intersection of Ashland Street and Church Street, is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police and the North Adams Police Department.

The driver of the car was identified as Joseph Thompson, 59, of Adams, who is the Director of the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.

The only other occupant was identified as Jodi Joseph, of Williamstown, who is the director of communications at Mass MoCA.

Thompson and Joseph did not suffer serious injuries in the accident.

No charges have been filed.

The multiple agencies involved are "still reconstructing the accident.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is expected to last several weeks.
