The Berkshire Eagle reports an Adams man died Sunday evening after apparently being stricken while driving and veering into an oncoming vehicle.

Stanley Bednarz, 74, was driving south on Church Street about 9 p.m. when he apparently lost control of the car and struck a northbound SUV near the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Skating Rink.

Police believe Bednarz suffered a medical emergency which resulted in his loss of ability to operate his motor vehicle. Drugs are not believed to have played a role in the accident, the report said.

Bednarz was transported to the North Adams Campus of Berkshire Medical Center but died shortly after arriving at the emergency department.

Three other people were transported to the hospital by North Adams Ambulance, but their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, the report said. The driver of the Hyundai SUV was identified as Samantha Spooner of North Adams.
